The Winchester

Chicago, IL

From the editor

In a storefront where Winchester Avenue meets Augusta, the recently-opened (and discernibly named) Winchester offers an all-day dining experience to the Ukrainian Village neighborhood. Stop by in the morning for avocado toast, meet a friend for smoked chicken sandwiches at lunchtime, or come in the evening when they serve their squash curry stir-fry, but just make sure you go. Open and airy with friendly counter service and plenty of tables, it’s one of our favorite spots for breakfast meeting or easy work session.

The Winchester opened in early 2014, with partial funding by the community through Kickstarter. Chicago design wonders Sonnenzimmer put together their modular identity and collaborated on artwork throughout the space, cementing the Winchester’s devotion to the community beyond locally purveyed menu offerings.

  • We love their magical belgian waffles, served plain on weekdays, and covered in eggs benedict at weekend brunch.
  • Ask about the juice of the day! They serve a range of non-coffee breakfast beverages.
